The Nielsen House

The Nielsen House303 Tenth Street - Jason Torrey sold this corner lot to Gilbert Knapp, founder of the Honesdale Iron Works, for $850 in 1851. In 1855 Knapp sold the land to Charlotte Beardslee, wife of the editor of "The Herald". Louisa Nielsen bought the lot in 1885 for $2,500 and built the house the following year. Her husband Julius had a notions store on Main Street. The house remained in the Nielsen family for 100 years. Louis B. Nielsen had his medical office on the first floor and his son Louis B. Nielsen, Jr. had his legal office there, followed by Attorney Stephen Jennings. ARCHITECTURAL STYLE: QUEEN ANNE VICTORIAN
